[SOLVED] Specific beamers/projectors not recognised by my laptop

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 13 (2015) which runs arch linux with Gnome. Usually, when I plug in an external display (such as a secondary monitor), it is automatically recognized and configured by my arch linux laptop.
However, the beamers at my university aren't. When I plug them in (via a DP-to-VGA/DVI/HDMI adapter, which usually works with other monitors), nothing happens. Furthermore, they are not listed in the display settings menu of gnome, as well as in the output of xrandr --listmonitors.

Does anybody know what may cause this issue? Generally, the beamers work with other laptops (even with those having nearly the same arch linux setup as my laptop has), so there should be a way to make it work with mine, too.

Thanks in advance for your help.

(If this is the wrong section for this issue, please tell me.)

No, I somehow missed it during my search.

Thanks for posting that thread, it seems I have the same kernel issue. So switching to LTS should be a sufficient workaround until the release of linux 4.9

Re: [SOLVED] Specific beamers/projectors not recognised by my laptop

OK. I've been using the lts kernel on my laptop since the beginning of 2014 and it's been rock solid - there is no real need in my case to have the latest kernel, although I have that installed as well at the same time for testing purposes. YMMV.

Don't forget to prepend "[SOLVED]" to your first post.
