[Solved] Monitor Sleeps Shortly After Choosing x86_64 Option

Hello.

Brief description of issue: Boot from USB of install ISO, select the x86_64 option from splash, get some output afterward that disappears quickly, then the monitor sleeps.  Ctrl+Alt+Del does reboot.

Images used - 10.01 and 11.01 ISO's, same error.

Steps taken to produce issue:

Use

sudo dd if=Downloads/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdd bs=4M status=progress && sync

to flash drive (as non-root user; I've tried two different flash drives) --> Plug USB to desktop (I've tried front ports on case, and the back mobo ports) --> Boot, get into BIOS and change boot order to put flash drive first --> Reboot, Arch install splash screen appears --> Select x86_64 option

Screen output:

Probing EDD (edd=off to disable) . . . ok
: : running early hook [udev]
starting version 231
: : running early hook [archiso_pxe_nbd]
: : running hook [udev]
: : Triggering uevents . . .
[ 3.317210] nouveau 0000:01:00.0 DRM: Pointer to flat panel table invalid

That appears very briefly, then goes away; the monitor goes to sleep.  Ctrl+Alt+Del does reboot the computer though.

I've got a GTX 970 if that matters; I tried using different ports on the card, and the HDMI port on the mobo, but there is still no screen output.

Let me know if any other information is needed.

Hitting tab at the splash and adding "nomodeset", then hitting enter solved the issue.

Thanks!

Whoot ! Thanks guys, I have been looking for this solution.

It's not just Arch Linux, several of the latest distros behave exactly the same (Ubuntu 16.10, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, etc) ... I too use an nVidia GTX970
