Acer Notebook has stopped booting

It used to work just fine. Now I cannot boot from either the internal disk, or an Arch boot stick. (Presumably a system upgrade caused it)

From the internal disk, I get to "loading initial ramdisk" and then it hangs.

From the Arch boot stick, I get a kernel panic: "not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work. Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option."

If I boot with "noapic", I also get a kernel panic.

Suggestions? Where would I "send a report"?

Re: Acer Notebook has stopped booting

Do you have any other live distro available? Try with that to make sure it isn't a hardware issue.

Also, not an installation issue, moving to "Laptop issues".

Re: Acer Notebook has stopped booting

Ubuntu 14.04 has the same kernel panic. This is a two years old release (although with newer patches) so somewhat less likely to contain newly offensive code.

Memtest is fine.

Maybe hardware issue is the best guess (?!?)
