[SOLVED]xfce4-terminal very slow startup

Hello,

After updating xfce4-terminal to 0.8.0-1 it now take about 25 seconds to start. Once 1 terminal is open I can open another one and it starts right away. I am not sure what to look at. I did create a new user to see if there was maybe something in my ~/.config but it does the same thing.

If I start it from tilda I get this messgae:

** (xfce4-terminal:1587): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I have googled and searched forums. Nothing helped,

Thanks for the help.
Dennis

Re: [SOLVED]xfce4-terminal very slow startup

25s is the dbus timeout  - smells like dbus-launch or ck-launch-session is used (there're threads around where xfce does that if some DBUS variable is wrong)
=>

ps aux | grep -iE '(launch|xfce)'

Re: [SOLVED]xfce4-terminal very slow startup

More info current version of xfce4-terminal is 0.8.1-1 and if I run dbus-launch exporting that DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS and DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ID it works fine. But my dbus_session_bus_address changes to unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-WAs2lwD2a2,guid=6db906b29175e10f93de77545832f2cd
instead of unix:path=/run/user/1000/bus

You shall not run dbus-launch at all, if you do that explicitly (in xinitrc or so) simply stop it ;-)

I'm not running dbus-launch. That was just a (pointless?) test. I checked /etc/bash.bashrc ~/,bashrc ~/.bash_profile ~/.xinitrc ~/.xsession.

Re: [SOLVED]xfce4-terminal very slow startup

Thanks for the help Seth.
The solution seems to NO_AT_BRIDGE=1 environment var. I found in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=176663 but it links to a German wiki so I can't read it, but I tried it and it worked.

Re: [SOLVED]xfce4-terminal very slow startup

The wiki says that the terminal (is that really xfce-terminal??) tries to access the assisitive technology service (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assistive … _Interface) which is more of a GNOME thing and rather weird. Thanks for the heads up!
