[Solved]Compiz fails, libprotobuf.so.9 not found after protobuf update

Hello community,

after today's update of protobuf

Compiz (0.8.12 series from the AUR) has problems to start, various libraries report that libprotobuf.so.9 cannot be found. Indeed, it was there in /usr/lib/libprotobuf.so.9 before today's update, but now disappeared.

The SVN log of the protobuf package reports that the last update has been pushed 12 days ago (so I guess, the mirror I'm using is out of date since I keep my system updated and check for updates every day) and there was a major rewrite. I don't know though, what led to the libprotobuf.so.9 file getting missing...

P.S.: Solved, had to install libprotobuf2 from the AUR and rebuild the Compiz packages.

When a library changes, they change the soname, usually by incrementing the number at the end. When this happens, all programs linked to that library need rebuilt against the new version. Anything in the repos is done for you, anything else (AUR included) is your responsibility.

Can confirm. Rebuilding compiz/updating aur packages fixed the problem.
