Launching Games on Steam Results in Freeze

I recently switched from the NVIDIA proprietary driver to Nouveau to fix OpenGL issues with the non-Steam version of KSP, and now when I am trying to launch games on Steam for the first time since, my computer will freeze and require a hard reboot.

I am running Steam with

LD_PRELOAD='/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/$LIB/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libxcb.so.1 /usr/$LIB/libgpg-error.so' /usr/bin/steam

as is suggested on the wiki.

There are no notable errors in the console log when launching Steam, and none up until the point where the game becomes unresponsive. I have mesa-libgl & lib32-mesa-libgl installed, as well as several other drivers suggested in other threads.
