[RESOLVED] Doing a 64Bit install

I did an install presuming that it would be a 64bit install. On completion though I realise that this is not the case. As I have 16GB ram I would like a 64bit install so it looks like I will need to reinstall everything. How do I tell the installed to perform a 64bit install?

What did you use to install Arch? How did you get/make it?

Please also tell us about your CPU. The contents of /proc/cpuinfo should tell us all we need to know.

I have been doing so many new things that I am not sure that I remember the exact details but in essence I
* Downloaded and image (I think it was http://archlinux.mirror.digitalpacific. … 1-dual.iso)
* Created a boot USB
* Followed the Wiki install guide i.e. pcstrap /mnt base base-devel
* etc

Re: [RESOLVED] Doing a 64Bit install

Ok so I do have a 64bit install

[abasel@baselmania ~]$ uname -a
Linux baselmania 4.8.10-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Nov 21 11:55:43 CET 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So why does my VirtualBox only give me 32bit options for Windows?

Are you talking about creating a VM in the VirtualBox menu? The OS option is just for setting an icon. It has no influence on the machine.

Otherwise, if you are trying to install Windows in VirtualBox, IIRC, there are no dual-arch installers for Windows (either it's a 32-bit installer or a 64-bit installer - you will need a 64-bit Windows installation disk).

Re: [RESOLVED] Doing a 64Bit install

Worked it out. I needed to enable virtualistion in my bios.

The moment I did this the 64bit options appeared in the dropdown when installing.
