Plasma 5 and SDDM black screen!

Hi,

With a fresh installation of Plasma 5 on PC with Skylake 530 graphics, I can't login to desktop. Starting sddm cause black screen. Gnome and GDM works fine, as well as Mate with LightDM. Only Plasma with SDDM is the issue. Tried both Intel and modset drivers, same results.

Same setup as above works on a Haswell based Graphics PC!

Kernel: Tried both the regular and LTS, same results.

Re: Plasma 5 and SDDM black screen!

@barmadrid - hi, I too have had this problem for some months now. The solution for me is to revert to an older version of SDDM (pre 0.14) and block pacman from updating the SDDM package. Do this by changing:-

'IgnorePkg = sddm' in /etc/pacman.conf

Older versions of a package can be found at https://archive.archlinux.org/ and can be installed using the pacman command:-

sudo pacman -U sddm-0.13.0-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

I have to use the above version of sddm, anything newer will result in a black screen. For reference I am currently using the Nouveau graphics driver and get the same result with the Nvidia driver.

This solution is far from ideal and appears to be an ongoing problem with SDDM which shows no signs of being resolved. I have also reported this problem upstream at the SDDM GitHub site.

Hope this is enough to get your display manager working.

Re: Plasma 5 and SDDM black screen!

I don't have any issues neither on an nvidia nor on an intel skylake with 530 HD card, A common cause for crashes in this regard are recent enough CPUs without microcode updates applied. But without any logs or crashdumps all any one can do is speculate.

On reading OP again, I notice you are using the xf86-video-intel driver, have you tried removing that and using the xorg builtin modesetting driver instead?

Yes, I also tried with modesetting driver, same issue. By the way, I already have the Intel microcodes enabled!

Re: Plasma 5 and SDDM black screen!

I have the same issue.
Last working version of SDDM is 0.13.0-x
After update to new version - black screen.
[ GTX 980 Nvidia driver 375.26 ]
If I try connect via DVI - SDDM working ok. (via HDMI - NOT working)
