Hello all,
i'm running MATE with caja-gtk3. Had audio-preview only for ogg and wav but not for mp3.
Codecs are installed: all audios are executable in players.
So i installed totem, but during that installation the system froze and i finally exited it with REISUB. After that i tried to remove or install totem & totem-plparser but i got:
/usr/lib/"various .so-files" is empty; no check.
So i had a little work to manually delete those empty libs till it does not show the error anymore.
The same with:
lua52 (5.2.4-2)
lua52-socket (20160311-1)
lua52-bitop (1.0.2-7)
lua52-expat (1.3.0-3)
lua52-lpeg (1.0.0-1)
lua52-luajson (1.3.3-2)
libquvi-scripts (0.9.20131130-3)
libquvi (0.9.4-4)
totem-plparser (3.10.7+1+gb25e497-1)
libpeas (1.20.0-1)
cogl (1.22.2-1)
clutter (1.26.0+24+g79da526-1)
clutter-gtk (1.8.2-1)
clutter-gst (3.0.22-1)
liboauth (1.0.3+9+g11e9461-1)
grilo (0.3.2+8+g6ffe445-1)
cdparanoia (10.2-5)
libvisual (0.4.0-6)
Then i installed gstreamer0.10-plugins: -base, -good, -good-plugins, -ugly, -ugly-plugins.
BUT NO SUCCESS! Contrary, after all NO audio-preview at all! Even in Thunar-extended which i installed to test this.
In caja and thunar the little symbol of previewing is showing up when hovering over the ogg./mp3. or wav. file but no sound.
Any ideas? I'm stuck and drained....

You want the gstreamer 1.0 codecs gst-plugins-(base,good,bad,ugly) and not the gstreamer0.10 ones
Online
@ V1del
thanks a bundle!
that was the missing link and by the way i discovered that those gstreamer-plugins/codecs, although they had been installed, they also were corrupted and therefore not functioning, so a:
$ pacman -S --force gst-plugins-base gst-plugins-base-libs gst-plugins-good gst-plugins-ugly
fixed it and mp3-preview too! yeah!
I find this feature (audio-preview) quite helpful when its getting to quickly find some certain sounds or musics
