[SOLVED] FreeCAD segfaults when creating a new project
Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this. I just installed FreeCAD for the first time. It opens fine, but crashes when I try to create a new project. After some googling, I found http://www.freecadweb.org/tracker/view.php?id=1340 and my copy does look like it's loading libCoin.so.60. I can not figure out how to install the libCoin.so.80 file though. I assume there is a way to do it because other people are using FreeCAD on Arch...im just totally lost on this issue. Am I missing something obvious?

Afaict AL doesn't provide libCoin.so.80 in any official package.
Please start freecad from an (x)terminal,force the crash and post the output.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I don't have much xp with coredumps, but 1 thing does stand out : lots of Qt libraries with so.4 , including libQtCore.so.4 .
That indicates freecad (or it's dependencies ) use Qt4 .
A quick test with a fresh freecad install and creating a new empty document gave no problems.
Does the segfault happen after you performed some actions ?

Well now i feel dumb. I launched it again to see what exactly causes the crash. Before this morning it was starting any new project. Now everything works. I believe what "fixed" my issue was simply rebooting my computer. Before I installed FreeCAD three days ago I upgraded my system, then installed FreeCAD. There must have been something that was upgraded that required a reboot.

Everyone has these moments, so don't get down over this. Do mark your post as solved though. It just might help someone else out in the future.

Moral of the story is if you are experiencing weird crashes after upgrading, reboot your computer.
