Recognize the installed package after disaster

Hi,

I deleted /var by accident, but it could be worse. The main problem that I have is that pacman doesn't know what packages I have installed. Is there a way that I can list all my installed packages and let know pacman of those?

Both the local package installation database and the downloaded packages cache are by default stored in /var (/var/lib/pacman/local and /var/cache/pacman/pkg).
Unless you have saved a list of installed packages somewhere, I'm afraid the best solution propably is to reinstall.

You can use pkgfile to find out what packages each file belongs to and rebuild your database from that.
