Apparently the thing which shows the dialog "Save as" which contains a minimal file manager is accessing /media/xyz, causing the harddrive mounted to /media to spin up.
How can i stop it from accessing everything that is mounted, and make it only read the opened directories?
What's the name of this program?
Can i replace it with a better one, for example a file manager like dolphin?

It is a GTK file chooser dialog window.
It's implemented in firefox source code. to replace it by anything , you'd have to change a big part of firefox sourcecode.

By default it starts with path to last save. If you only "save as" to an ssd, it won't spin up hdds.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Double checked this, and the HDD still spins up, so i have to disagree.
Saved a file into /home/user/Downloads before to make sure that the last save is on an SSD.
Also found out that the spin up only happens once. When i spin the HDD down after that, then save again it's not spinning up.

seems i was wrong about that then .
Is there a difference if media/xyz is mounted / unmounted at the time you do 'save as' ?
