How to have different sound levels in different programs?

I want to be able to listen to music and watch video in xine at the same time. However, if I lower the sound level in xine it also lowers in XMMS. What can I do?

What happens is that XINE grabs the  system-wide volume control. You could try playing with the XINE audio settings. Or you could try a frontend for XINE. Totem, for example.

Create or edit ~/.xine/config to include the following:
