Hi,
After a recent upgrade, I started to receive the following error right after login:
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
• a bug in libxklavier library
• a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
• X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
• The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
• The result of gsettings list-keys org.mate.peripherals-keyboard-xkb.kbd
I've solved this issue by reinstalling xorg-xkbcomp and changing the keyboard layout.
On MATE through the gui (System->Preferences->Hardware->Keyboard). Just add a new layout and remove the old.
