I was away for two month. After updating , vmware tools on my guest arch system stopped working. Update to open-vm-tools was part of that upgrade window. Both auto-resize and clipboard used to work completely fine before that upgrage, and no config/settings changes were made by me, other than running this sudo pacman -Syu upgrade.
Now, VmWare player on Windows host does not detect vmware tools as being installed within guest Arch system. Auto-display resolution change on window resize stopped working, and clipboard sharing does not work either anymore.
I don't have previous version cached. Reinstalling the package, reinstalling related packages, rebooting, restarting services do not help at all.
vmware-user-suid-wrapper exits with 0 code, reports nothing, but also does nothing meaninful anymore.
vmtoolsd and vmware-vmblock-fuse are both up and running, without error messages.
Any ideas how to unscrew it?
Auto-resize, of course, can be hacked around by manually using xrandr, but broken clipboard is unbearable. I'm using X.org.

Basic question first: what VMware Player version and host are you using? My host is version 12.5.2 build-4638234 on Windows 10, and open-vm-tools is working for me.

It was 12.1.1-3770994.
Yesterday, trying to fix the problem, I upgraded to the latest from VMware website, which is 12.5.1-4542065

You can try getting the newer version (12.5.2 wasn't a typo) - VMware player menu: Help -> Software Updates - and see if that helps. Be sure to also check the wiki, of course - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VM … as_a_guest . In the troubleshooting section it mentions needing gtkmm and gtk2 installed in the guest for the window resizing and copy/paste to work.
If none of that helps we can start to poke into what's different between your vm and mine.

I already tried reinstalling gtkmm, gtk2 and xorg-server. gtkmm and gtk2 were already installed.
Also, already read the wiki article.
Updated to Player 12.5.2 build-4638234 - no difference.

Root cause was infinality bundle being outdated.
Problem was fixed by following this guide: https://gist.github.com/cryzed/e002e705 … 9e748c5671

Amazing. I'm happy you got it fixed (and also sorry I was not any help), but I never would have guessed that. Nice work.
