Unfortunately I can't give more details about the upgrades, because I was away for three weeks and today I have upgraded a lot of packages all together.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

The current favorite cause of crashes are freetype2-infinality packages, make sure to reverse them to their repo versions if they are installed on your system (the actual patches have made it into the official version of freetype2 since 2.7), if this is the case for you look into one of the other numerous threads on details of how to configure them properly. another thing that is often safe to do are microcode updates of ones processor, however you would likely have noticed issues with that earlier than in a window of 3 weeks.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

I read about the problems with infinality around the forum, so I got rid of the infinality packages on the system but sorting no effect. I don't know what you mean by configure freetype2 properly, would point me to one of the thread with the details of how configure it?

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

gdk-pixbuf2 is installed. I tried to install it again, unfortunately this does not solve the problem.

Edit: I rolled back gdk-pixbuf2 to version 2.36.1+31+gecea71eb6-1 and apparently this solve the problem, both on Xorg and Wayland.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

I am having the exact same problem. The removal of infinality didn't have any effect.

Edit:
The command posted by masolit did work.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

Re-installing gdk-pixbuf2 should not be needed.  It works because it triggers the packages update hook /usr/share/libalpm/hooks/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders.hook
Which runs

# /usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache

Just running the command should work just as well.

Re: [SOLVED]Gnome shell core dumping when trying to view applications menu

I installed once again the latest version and ran the command pointed by loqs, problem solved.
