I would like to have custom gnome-menus in the gnome-panel (like the gnome-menubar shows applications, places,...). This is easy to do with the xfce-panel (uses xml-menufiles) but I would rather like the gnome-panel. I googeled some but couldn't find anything usefull...
Another question: is it possible to give the xfce-panel a bg?

About the poll:
None. Who needs a panel ?
I tried pypanel some weeks ago, it's very nicely down and lightweight.

The xfce4-svn panel looks better than the old one. But i havent tryed it.
I use gnome-panel if i feel like getting DE feel. Other wise pekwm doesnt need one.

Alacarte is not a solution, I want to be able to have my own places menu, my own favourites menu,...

Gnome-panel, kicker and the new xfce4-panel are all OK. Pypanel is cool too, but I think I prefer fluxbox' way of integrating the panel in the windowmanager, that way I don't have too manually adapt the panel every time I switch to a new theme
Never tried perlpanel so I can't comment on it.
