I started using chromium again recently, and I noticed that some emoji don't render properly in it for some reason. Specifically, the "Fitzpatrick Skin Tone Modifier", where there is a combining character that sets the skin color of the emoji that goes before it. I'm using the noto-fonts-emoji package, which I know supports these characters (since it works in firefox).
To demonstrate this issue, check out how this page is rendered in chromium vs in firefox: https://eosrei.github.io/emojione-color … -demo.html
Anybody have any insight into this, or better yet, a fix? I found https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/is … ?id=476377, but this bug is closed as fixed.

Hard to tell since you didn't post any screenshot, but pretty sure that Firefox is using its own bundled emoji font instad of noto.

Oh, that is very interesting. I see that there is, in fact, an emoji font included in the firefox package. I hadn't noticed that. I guess that's the explanation, and noto doesn't really contain those characters after all. Thanks!
