I finally got hibernation (suspend-to-disk) to work! Never could get it to work with X running (nvidia drivers..)
Now I am trying to get standby to work..
When I make my hibernate.conf look like this:
#TryMethod suspend2.conf
#TryMethod disk.conf
TryMethod ram.conf
I get:
hibernate: No suitable suspend methods were found on your machine.
hibernate: You need to install a kernel with support for suspending to
hibernate: disk or RAM and reboot, then try again.
My common.conf and ram.conf look fine and should work..
Specs:
Athlon XP 2000 (oced to 2600)
GeForce 6800 (had to disable overclocks cause the computer would freeze on suspend)
1GB DDR333 RAM
Beyond Kernel 2.6.16 (4.1-1)
Darkstar:
Athlon 64 3500+ (OC ~2.49ghz)
Leadtek GeForce 6800 128mb (unlocked/OC)
Rosewill Value DDR400 1GB
WDC SE 80GB
NEC 3550 DVDRW DL 16X

Had to enable S3 Suspend in bios and change the UseSysfsPowerState to 'standby' instead of 'mem' or the comp would just shut off

Yup, I had the same problems. I only found out about the S3 bios just last night, and after I did that, it worked:
