I was processing some photos using Darktable. One of the modules caused Darktable to crash. Thanks to conky I could observe strange disk usage (root partition) changes. It should be about 12,1 GB. It jumped up to 16 GB then went down to 14,2 GB. I was not installing anything. It now shows 14,2 GB. I decided to do clean Darktable install. It works OK now but root partition space usage is 14,2 GB and I think it should be only 12,1 GB. Can anybody explain what disk failure or rather system activity could make this strange changes?

Temp files? Try running ncdu on the root partition as the root user (careful though since you are able to delete things with a keystroke).

Thank you graysky for your advice. I like ncdu. It worked perfect and fast. It gave me this:
ncdu 1.12 ~ Use the arrow keys to navigate, press ? for help

I've just found some information about coredump files and their nature. I may disable them later as they are not very practical for a user like me. Thanks again.
