[SOLVED] Baffled by Firefox "bullshit"

I recently switched back to Firefox after spending some time using Chromium.

While browsing in Firefox I was surprised to see occasional words covered by a label saying "bullshit" or "b.s.". Now I vaguely remember once upon a time trying out a humorous add-on that replaced buzzwords by "bullshit" so I set about looking for it.

Was it mentioned under Firefox add-ons? Nope.

Try restarting Firefox with all add-ons disabled? No luck.

Try searching in ~/.mozilla, in cache files and elsewhere? Nothing to be found.

Try restarting Firefox with a fresh profile? Still "bullshit"!

Try reinstalling Firefox? Still "bullshit"!

Try browsing from another browser. No "bullshit".

Now I'm baffled.

What am I missing?

The only other place I can think to look is in /usr/lib/firefox.  Particularly under browser/extensions.  Add-ons shouldn't really be there, but who knows what happened?

Maybe it's still under addons just not using the name you are looking for?

For example there's this addon called GreaseMonkey which is just a generic way to load javascript filters that change pages in various ways, so maybe your bullshit is a greasemonkey script.

Or you have a proxy that does funny things, in which case you'd have to check your network settings. And clear browser caches.

I came here all ready to chastize you for your thread title.  It turns out it is descriptive ... however it is certainly ambiguous.  Perhaps a revision to the title to indicate you are struggling to disable a plugin/addon would be more likely to attract the right attention and less likely to have people already on edge before their read your question.

Found it!

This was what it was: http://www.sansbullshitsans.com/

I had left the .ttf files lying around in my ~/.fonts directory.

That'll teach me to clean up my mess and not leave my , erm, crap lying around.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Thanks Trilby. I can imagine your initial concern. :-)

The thread title was intended to be literally descriptive and not at all either gratuitous or intentionally offensive or provocative. At the time I didn't know if it was a plugin or addon and it turned out it wasn't.

I understand it's your role to keep things civil here but I respectfully suggest that if other people get triggered by a literal technical problem description then they might consider recalibrating their outrage.

How does it work here? Can I still edit the thread title to put "solved" on it?

Yes, you can always edit your own titles by clicking "edit" on the first post.  As it's sorted now revising the title for me previously suggested reasons is less relevant, but prepending [SOLVED] would be good.
