Power consumption on modern laptops with skylake / kabylake

Accroding to this post lifetime of modern laptops may be much less than on Windows. I would like to buy a laptop, but this stops me from buying it. Have you compared lifetime with official data from tech specs? Is it possible to change power state lower than PC3 on modern kernels?

The answer is yes but most probably you will have to do some manual tuning of your system. Search the forum as this as been discussed before. You will want to take a look at powertop as a start point for your optimizations.

Andrew made some patches for NVME on xps13, but I believe it should work well on other skylake as well. Give it a try - maybe it will work.
