autofs, sshfs, disk space and Dolphin (KDE)

I just set up an autofs that mounts a sshfs remote server.  I can use Dolphin to browse the shares and open them, but if I try to use it to copy, move, or create a file it fails with a "disk full" message.  I can use Nautilus (Gnome FM) to perform these operations without a problem.

The problem seems to be that sshfs reports 0B free on the server and while nautilus doesn't verify free space, Dolphin does. This is a potential showkiller for my use of Plasma in my work environment.
The disk space issue is a known bug in the sshfs program that has been around for about 10 years, so I doub't that will get fixed any time soon.
Is there a workaround for Dolphin?
