[SOLVED] Tracker-extract ram usage

Hi everyone,
i've noticed today a huge amount of ram usage by tracker-extract. Online i've found that's a package that shoud help by providing and index based on metadatas and should boost some other programs like music players and so on. On the official page i've read that should use 3-4 mb of ram, but in my case it's using 850 mb ._.
My pc has 32 gb of ram (i need it, dont blame me) so tracker is not compromising my daily usage, but with heavy workloads that gb free would help me.
So the questions are:
1) Is it normal, due to the big amount of ram?
2) How can i fix it?
3) can i just pacman -Rs tracker and live happy in case i won't fix it?

Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Tracker-extract ram usage

You could severely restrict which paths tracker should index in Gnome Control Center. So e.g. let it index your Videos and a folder with PDFs but not your git repository folder with GB's of source code (where ack is far more useful for searching anyway). That way Gnome is happy because tracker is installed, but its impact on performance stays low.

Re: [SOLVED] Tracker-extract ram usage

I've disabled all / directories except home, but 2 mins after boot tracker already is using 300 mb and the usage is increasing.

Re: [SOLVED] Tracker-extract ram usage

You can use tracker-preferences to control indexing. I think it is better to disable indexing for your home directory and then enable folders selectively as in the screenshot below.

Re: [SOLVED] Tracker-extract ram usage

That's exactly what i've done, i've selected music, videos, pic, documents, desktop and downloads, leaving unselected the ~ directory. The thing i've noticed is that the difference has been felt when, in the ignored content section, i've disabled pretty much every directory inside / , leaving only /home unselected and that's not a problem because i'm the only user of this machine. Right now tracker is using about 30 mb of ram, so i think it's solved, thanks man!
