Sound not working on iMac 5k (Late 2014 model)

Having just installed Arch on iMac 5k, all is working quite well except for sound.
I have seen another thread (see link below) where someone on a rather similar hardware had the same problem. Alas I cannot see his solution as he writes about PulseAudio profiles etc and how "now I got it working".

[Solved]Sound not working on iMac 4K

So, I'm at a place where I could use some help. I have PulseAudio installed and I have not tampered with any config files yet.
When playing any kind of sound from any source, in pavucontrol I "see" the sound but there's nothing from the speakers

Here are the result of some commands that can be of interest.

lspci -v | grep -i audio

A final note. I have seen the Arch Wiki for iMac Aluminium (whatever that is).
There's a note on something called /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf and fiddling around with that gives headphone sounds with a whispering buzz in the background. Another of the settings listed in that wiki for the same config file gives the same but for the speakers, not the headphones.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Sound not working on iMac 5k (Late 2014 model)

Don't do any of the modprobe fiddles for now, they usually break more than they solve. Then install pulseaudio-alsa, reboot. Then try to play something you expect to have sound from and post:

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pacmd list-sinks
pacmd list-sink-inputs
amixer -c0

Hi, and thanks for taking the time.
As crazy as it may sound, I now have sound working for the regular speakers (without any modprob, just installing the pulseaudio-alsa, no configurations made anywhere what so ever). However, using the headphones does not work. The sound can still be "seen" in pavucontrol for the headphones but no sound is there to hear.

Here is the output from the commands you requested. I'm running a random movie on VLC that gives sound in the regular speakers, but the output of the commands is from when having no sound using the headphones.

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*

Cannot stat file /proc/1443/fd/20: Permission denied
                     USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
/dev/snd/controlC0: myusername 700 F.... pulseaudio
/dev/snd/controlC1: myusername 700 F.... pulseaudio
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0c: myusername 700 F...m pulseaudio
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: myusername 700 F...m pulseaudio

I have no idea what's going on with the permission denied thing there. I'm running the command with sudo as stated.

Re: Sound not working on iMac 5k (Late 2014 model)

Some more information on this:

1) So VLC worked when I rebooted. It gave out a quite nice sound.
1.1) Trying Spotify did not work. Not a peep what so ever.
2) Headphones doesn't work, neither on VLC or any other source for that matter.
3) I tried watching a YouTube movie on VLC and it didn't give any sound.
4) After 3, VLC no longer produces any sound, until a reboot is done. Then it works for local movies again. Until trying something that doesn't work either YouTube or Spotify for example.
5) After 1.1 VLC no longer produces any sound, until a reboot is done. Then it works for local movies again. Until trying something that doesn't work either YouTube or Spotify for example.

I don't know if any of the above is relevant but that's how it is.
