Using NetworkManager in Cinnamon

Hi,

so I installed Arch. I remember that I installed Cinnamon and then did "startx" and then saw a nice GUI for Wlan connection. It showed all the available wlan connections. I also remember, that somehow I wasn't able to use it to connect to my network. (I have to type in an username and a password). I could do whatever I want, the "Connect" button was never activated. I think this led me to use netctl again with the netctl-auto@interface.service enabled, my wlan works fine and directly connects on start up.

But I want to use a VPN. Now, I already know how to use my VPN together with netctl, wouldn't be a problem but I'd like ot use the built in network manager utility from Cinnamon.

I somehow can't get it back.

So my question is: How do I get the default network manager of cinnamon back?

I've never been able to use the default network manager of Cinnamon to work with netctl, but there's an addon that you can install that adds that functionality to the systray

Cinnamon network applet uses NetworkManager.  If you want to use that:
Right click the panel -> Add applets to the the panel and make sure the Network Manager Applet is enabled.
Menu -> preferences -> Network should be able to configure Network Manager assuming it is enabled.  ( disable other services that control network interfaces first such as netctl )
