Which AUR helper are you using?
qtwebkit is available in the AUR.

I am using "pacaur / cower". Is it a long compile time to install qtwebkit from AUR?
In the past, I think a year ago I was able to install Skype smoothly without compilation, pacaur picked up a pre-compiled binary package.

qtwebkit has recently been dropped to the AUR, it was removed from the official repos due to unfixed security issues.

Mod note: Moving to AUR Issues.

Try 'skypeforlinux-bin' since 'skypeforlinux' is outdated.

Thx, but "skypeforlinux-bin" isn't available for i686 architecture, unlike "skypeforlinux".
But finally I was able to install "qtwebkit-2.3.4-4" with the help of the command "downgrade" which was able to find a remote binary i686 package, as I am on an old AMD Athlon XP. So I think the initial problem has been solved. Unfortunately the installed Skype refuse to start on my system , because lack of SSE2 instruction set.

You are using the wrong distro. Arch is a rolling release with the latest software in its repos. Trying to get it to run on ancient hardware (and a deprecated architecture) is goting to be difficult. Please don't continue to open threads here if you are not sufficiently familiar with how Arch works.
