LIRC does not seem to receive my Apple Remote, but something else does

I wanted to use my Apple Remote in a presentation. Therefore, I installed LIRC. I copied the appropriate configuration file (A1294.lircd.conf) to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.d and changed the suffix of devinput.lircd.conf. However, I noticed that even when I disabled and stopped LIRC, I could still control my volume with the remote.

The files /dev/usb/hiddev0 and /dev/usb/hiddev1 exist, something like /dev/lirc0 does not (which was expected). irrecord and irw do not respond to the remote.

What programs could be receiving the signals of my remote? I would like to change the actions of the keys, but this is not possible when LIRC does not receive the remote's signals.
