New? the newest version is 1.0pre8 which is almost the same as 1.0ore7 which is in the current repository.

The new version has some new features and finally uses GTK2.

You can't miss something that hasn't happened yet.

mplayer has been flagged out-of-date, and the devs will update it when they have the time.

we all should have learned from the mplayer team that their release numbers to not always express the amount of changes.
