[SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

Hello guys, I installed fresh Archlinux 1 day ago and I'm very stuck since I tried to install i3 window manager. I can't figure out how I can start it.
I installed nvidia drivers:

sudo pacman -S nvidia

. As a try I installed also xfce4 window manager and when I try

startxfce4

I got as a screen shows:
http://nowakpawel.pl/screeny/arch.jpg]h … y/arch.jpg
I feel like I tried everyting and have absoluely no idea what can I do.
What should I read to solve this problem?

[EDIT]
I'll provide more details afternoon, but the point is I'm a bit confused - I don't know I installed some wrong packagesm, or X servers not working or it's badly configured..

Re: [SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

Can you post the log file?

From errors that I have experienced, xorg problems are sometimes caused by a lack of storage space so could you also post the output of "df -h".

Re: [SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

What's in your xorg.conf?  Why do you have an xorg.conf and/or how did you create it?  Generally you shouldn't need one on arch linux (nvidia *might* be an exception).

In addition to the original image being to large, you should not post images of text.  Just post command output, logs, and error messages as text in [ code ] tags.

EDIT: it seems you were previously told both about image sizes and about posting text as text in your previous thread.  Don't make us tell you a third time.

To be honest I still don't know how X servers works so I generate it by

nvidia-xconfig

I thought it's neccessary.

Re: [SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

Have you tried moving the xorg config to your home directory or somewhere and removing xorg-server and the reinstalling it. I believe that creates a new config file and this might include nvidia automatically. Check to see if it boots from that and we can work from there.

No that will not create a new config file.  The current config file is certainly an issue as nvidia-xconfig does not generate config files compatible with Hybrid_graphics
@nowakpawel as the system uses hybrid graphics pick from NVIDIA_Optimus or Bumblebee
Note the optimus wiki pages advises the creation of an xorg.conf with recent changes this seems to no longer be necessary.

Re: [SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

Thanks guys very much for Your help loqs' post helps me solve this problem. I had to configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf file manually as it describes.
Just one more thing..I want to understand it.
As I understand X server is responssible for Windows handling on Linux, /etc/X11/xorg.conf is a config file for this server, ~/.xinitrc allow me to configure which environment I want to use(GNOME, KDE, etc)?
In xorg.conf I need to configure proper drivers for my HW.
Am I right?

The X server is responsible for drawing the screen, not really anything else.  Windows and the appearance are controlled by your desktop environment or window manager.  Yes /etc/X11/xorg.conf is a configuration file for the server.  ~/.xinitrc does indeed allow you to decide which environment to load, as long as you use it with startx.  Some desktop environments don't honor .xinitrc, so it isn't always used.  I hope that clears things up a bit.

Re: [SOLVED]Postinstalation - X server won't start

Thanks for reply. I didn't excatly know difference between X-server and Desktop enviroment/window manager, but now I can imagine that easier.
