X not working anymore

I recently bought a NVIDIA GTX 1080 , and I installed the Nvidia-mesalibgl drivers , and after that ran nvidia-xconfig . After that , X doesn't start up anymore . How do I revert this ? And what drivers should I install to keep the installation hassle free ?

nvidia-xconfig has only one purpose: to generate a broken config. Remove the config and restart X. Paste your log and details of what you are trying to start if it doesn't work.

I had exactly the same problem but I resolve it using NVIDIA Optimus.

This isn't the same problem, if he bought that card he likely wants to use it standalone without an optimus setup.
