Using android smartphone as a second display

I'm looking for a way to use my smartphone as a second monitor on the go, I tried using VNC but it's not really what I'm after, I'd like for my pc to treat it as an independent display.
Basically, I'm looking for something like this, but for linux (Plasma).

Basically, you're still using VNC, but need to create a dummy screen which will show on the tablet.

Cool trick.  I could see myself using this for hot-seat gaming as a kind of poor man's network.

Note that to use the dummy driver in xorg you'll need xf86-video-dummy installed.
