I'm trying to get wireless running on my laptop, which uses a Truemobile 1300 on eth1, I believe. Currently using wlan-ng26 for wireless support, but I have no idea if it's helping or not. My mian questions are as follows:
1.) How do I found out the ESSID of my box (my windows system never asked for it, so I don't know how to get it)?
2.) Anyone with similar laptops got tips on what to do?
EDIT: if it helps any, I used hwd -e and saw that it's a "bcm43xx : Broadcom Corp.|BCM4309 802.11a/b/g" chip.
EDIT2: My box is an SBC-yahoo 2wire system with ethernet and wireless

It's not. wlan-ng26 is for Prism 2/3 chipsets, and your card uses a Broadcom chipset.

This "box" - any chance it's a wireless router, with a browser interface? You should be able to find the ESSID that way, if so - if not, post some more details.

That gives you two options - if you're using the current stock kernel package, use ndiswrapper, or if you want to be brave and experimental, install the kernel package from the testing repo, and load the bcm43xx module.

How long does it usually take them to add new kernels to the current repository? It looks like the newest kernel would be perfect if I could get it in place.

Well, the word from the devs is that it will be "any day now" or "soonish", depending who you ask. I take it you're not keen on using the testing repo, so why not try ndiswrapper in the meantime?

I'm not into temporary solutions, and the matter is not incredibly urgent. I'd just like to have it running by the end of the Summer so I can access both my home box, and my campus's wi-fi network. Plus, I'm still reeling from all the headaches Debian's testing and unstable branches gave me. I'm in no hurry to repeat those disasters.
