I have an external monitor attached to my T450s Thinkpad vie a mini display port. Ever so often (sometimes every minute ond at other times every 30 minutes) my external monitor goes dark for roughly 2-4 secons. I've experienced this issue for quite some time (couple of months). I cannot really track down the source of the problem, though. From experience this issue occurs particularly often when I hit <Esc> in vim, Enter, or switch the terminal (I am using i3). At first I thought that when I hit a key the cable disconnects for a short time due to the vibrations, but I don't think this is the issue (I tried shaking my table).
Any ideas how I could try to track down the problem? I'm not sure if for some reason my machine cannot keep up with the monitor, but that would be quite surprising to me. The frequency of these outages does not increase with higher system load.
