I have the same issue. How could I fix this?
All icons missing in Gimp. Both in the toolbox and in the menus.
I get this output in the console from running gimp:
WARNING: icon 'gimp-default-colors' failed to load. Check the files in your icon theme.
WARNING: icon 'gimp-swap-colors' failed to load. Check the files in your icon theme.I have no idea about icon themes. I reinstalled the hicolor-icon-theme, it didn't help. I tried installing gnome-icon-theme which didn't help.
I can change the icon theme in my desktop environment. This changes the missing icons appearance (from a red X on white background, to a black box for example), but all the icons are still missing.
I tried running gtk-update-icon-cache , it didn't help.
