Anyone else having problems with latest linux-lts and nvidia-lts?

Hello,
I'm using a laptop with a skylake intel chip and nvidia 960m. I've been using nvidia-lts and linux-lts with any problems for a while now. I recently tried updating my kernel from 4.9.18 to 4.9.20 and now my Xorg starts to a black screen. Downgrade back to 4.9.18 fixes the problem. I've also tried following the advice of this article https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … X_shutdown sadly without success.

I also use nvidia-drm so I can have vsync, that I enabled with this following article. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … de_setting

I was just curious if anyone else had any issues with the latest linux-lts and nvidia-lts and if anyone could shed any light on how to fix this aside from sticking with an older kernel?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum to post in, it just seemed most relevant to my issue

I'm currently stuck on an older rig running with an i3 530 and a Quadro 600, but the main-line nvidia package works fine for me on the 4.9.18-1 LTS kernel. However, I have an update currently waiting for the kernel that just got pushed yesterday it seems.

When I try to use the kernel, I can't do anything with 3D acceleration. I'm assuming this is because drivers aren't up to date for it. Do I have to use the testing branch of drivers for this, or am I just being really dumb?

I have linux-lts, linux-lts-headers, and all important nvidia packages installed for both 64-bit and 32-bit support. The issue is non-existant on 4.9.18-1 but exists on the 4.9.20-1 kernel.

EDIT: I just realized I'd forgotten to say, I did re-install nvidia drivers after the kernel update and it didn't seem to work.

Hello,

I have the same problem as you. I have a skylake processor as well. Haven't found a solution to it at this point. For now, I've just switched to the regular kernel.

It seems the user in that bug wasn't able to use the xserver at all, surprisingly I was -able- to use the xserver, but 3D performance was extremely slow. I.E. GZDoom went from perfectly playable, to less than 5FPS in OpenGL mode. Am I shooting at an entirely unrelated issue here, or is it indeed something to do with the kernel and driver incompatibility?

I downgraded my kernel to the 4.9.18-1 build, so I would have to update to see if the issue were the same.

No just check the journal for a boot under 4.9.20 Systemd#Filtering_output
Edit:
This should work as well but passing all the output the journal around is not optimal

$ journalctl | grep "nvidia_drm: disagrees"

How do I go about rebuilding the package? Apologies, I'm relatively new to all of this and have gotten pretty far just figuring things out myself.

Both entries with versions are => so any version greater than or equal to 4.9.16 will satisfy them so no need to change that.
You could increase the release by one if you wanted to.
Then yes as long as the running kernel is linux-lts 4.9.20 and the linux-lts-header 4.9.20 are also installed on the system, run makepkg then install with pacman then reboot.
You could have makepkg automatically install the built package with -i see man makepkg for more details.

Thank you for your help, I will try rebuilding the packages on the new kernel and see if my performance remains the same as it is now.

Rebuilding the nvidia-lts from ABS solved my problem. Shall I mark this problem as solved?

Also, does this mean the binary in the repository is no longer any good and should be rebuilt?
