message "CDROM not ready" in dmesg

Hello,

since a recent kernel update I can see these messages in dmesg at each boot :

[ 4913.558902] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] CDROM not ready.  Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
[ 6099.572152] sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] CDROM not ready.  Make sure there is a disc in the drive.

my cdrom works, but I want to know if I am alone with these messages ?

Not here, maybe some service tries to unconditionally do something on the device?

I would try to correlate those messages with some program you are using, 4913 and 6099 seconds after booting. It can be something like an open/save dialog or a rescan of devices/media.

Do you have Desktop Session set to Restore Previous Session? (Plasma-specific, since you are using it)

Maybe that, or maybe weird-ass vim plugin or this minesweeper game you played. Run dmesg -w and then start whatever applications you normally use and see if/when dmesg prints this message. And yes, just kidding with the minesweeper, most likely it's some media player indeed.

In any case, it seems harmless if the drive is indeed empty. Now, if you had a disk in the drive and still got this message, that could possibly indicate a problem smile
