Mic in headphones doesn't work?

When I check alsamixer I see "CAPTURE L/R" which is my internal MIC (which works, but need to use mic with headset)
If I hit the spacebar it changes to just "CAPTURE" -- not sure if that is the MIC in my headset?

Would I have to somehow disable my internal MIC to make the MIC in the headset work?
Unlike when I plug in the headphones my speaker/output is automatically changed to head phones but when recording it still uses the internal mic..

Install pavucontrol and try to set the default MIC in application.

Hitting spacebar on that kind of control means turning it off.

Are there other capture control in alsamixer for that card? Also any extra device listed in aplay -l?
