Extra failed login attempts when resuming from suspend, Gnome GDM

I have recently noticed, on account of my cat sitting on my keyboard and waking my laptop up frequently, that every time my laptop wakes from suspend an extra two failed login attempts are added to pam_tally.
I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this, as i have little to no experience configuring GDM.

I disabled fingerprint login as suggested in https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/questi … ts-in-gdm/ but to no avail.

i can provide any needed files or configurations.

any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Extra failed login attempts when resuming from suspend, Gnome GDM

a bit of new information:

- disabling the gdm-smartcard (my laptop doesnt have one) authentication causes the number of extra fails to 3, if that helps.
- changing the files in pam.d so there is only one call to pam_tally.so has no effect
