Issues with DVD and with SDL

Whenever I use SDL under totem, the playing image always remians a fixed size. How do I correct this issue?  If I can't use that, how do I get the option XWindows (X11/Xshm/XV) to work? In either case, will the fonts of subtitles look better? When I ran them under no XV, they had terrible aliasing.

As for DVD under totem, I've installed gstreamer0.10 -plugins, as well as lidnvav. However, it keeps saying that it "can't determine the type of stream". How do I correct this?
