[SOLVED] HDMI sound output missing in Gnome (amdgpu)

Some hardware I have:

- AMD A10 7850K
- Asus A68HM-PLUS
- ViewHD VHD-H2HSAs audio extractor
- External display

I'm using the "amdgpu" driver and "radeon" blacklist as described here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AM … ist_radeon

Steps to reproduce:

1. Power on the computer
2. Log in to Gnome 3.24.1
3. Go to Settings -> Sound -> Output
4. (No HDMI output option shown, just S/PDIF)
5. Reboot the computer
6. Log in to Gnome 3.24.1
7. Go to Settings -> Sound -> Output
8. (HDMI output option IS now shown and can be selected)

Some background:

I switched from the "radeon" driver to "amdgpu" driver because the former produced just too many graphical glitches. So far I've not seen bugs with the amdgpu driver, except this missing sound option bug (it works with the radeon driver). The audio extractor causes a delay before reacting to the signal from the computer so this bug would probably reappear with other delayed switch hardware.

The audio switch has a delay with turning off as well so probably that's why the audio output is showing after the step 5.

What to do next? If this is a driver issue how to report them to AMD? Some special logs needed?

Thank you for your help.

This is dependant on a huge patchset, which looks like it isn't going to be upstreamed soon since the code wasn't deemed usable for inclusion into the mainline kernel: Knock yourself out if you want to read the discussion another alternative you might be able to try is using and installing the amdgpu-pro driver from the AUR, which should have the necessary code.

OK, thanks. Guess I will wait then. Marking as solved.
