GNOME 3.24. Unicode input hotkey

Hi.

Starting from GNOME 3.24 the special hotkey for writing Unicode characters (Ctrl + Shift + u) stopped to work.

Do you observe this? How can it be tackled?

gnome on wayland? (loginctl session-status) - been on xorg before?

Is it broken in all clients and does it work for you outside gnome (just startx and launch some gtk application)? It's actually a client (gtk/atk) feature and still works here (but outside gnome)

Actually it works, but not the way it worked before.

When you press the hotkey in text fields of GUI apps, the “u” symbol should appear and when you type a code, you should see it and the code should be displayed underlined, like this: “u2605”.

When you press the hotkey in terminal emulators, a tooltip should appear under a text line and the code should be displayed in the tooltip during input.

After the update, nothing is displayed in GUI apps when pressing the hotkey. You can input a code, but you should do it blindly. If you press the hotkey by mistake and then type ordinary text, it isn't displayed and the situation confuses you.

In terminal emulators you can't use this input type. The hotkey doesn't work there at all.

That's what I get here (except "terminal emulator" - none VTE-based installed)
Does it also happen outside gnome? Do you use adwaita as theme? Any "unusual" packages from AUR or do you use the testing repo?

Actually the hotkey does work in vte-based terminals. For some reason, I thought the hotkey should work in urxvt, the terminal i'm currently on, but it don't.

So, the problem is in absence of an on-screen indication in the Unicode input mode.
