Add a new category in the Activities menu

Hi

How can i get this?

I want to create a new category(eg: Security) in the Activities Menu and add some applications entries in the new category.

I tried to edit:

/usr/xdg/menus/gnome-applications.menu
/usr/share/applications/ (created a new .desktop file)
/usr/share/desktop-directories/ (created a new .directory file)

I get the .desktop file to be shown in one of the standard categories(eg: Network) but how can i create a new category and add the new .desktop file.?

Ty

Re: Add a new category in the Activities menu

The official way to do this is with Gnome Software. In the list of installed software you can select multiple entries (by first clicking on the check mark in the upper right, then selecting individual applications with the checkbox appearing then). If you have selected one or more applications you get some buttons at the bottom to add or remove the apps from a "folder". You can also add a new "folder" / category. Don't ask me how a user should find out about this functionality without someone explaining it smile

AFAIK there are also third party tools which can do this and you can also fiddle around with dconf and add the categories there, but I have only used the Gnome Software approach so far.
