Notification for AUR flag out of date for package followers (voters)

I would like to suggest a feature in AUR. (https://aur.archlinux.org)

Currently AUR sends notification ONLY to maintainer when someone marks package as out of date.

Followers (voters) of the package get notification when package is updated (new commit)

So followers would not know that there is new version out, till the maintainer updates the package

Under AUR - My account there are these options

Notification settings:
Notify of new comments:
Notify of package updates:
Notify of ownership changes:

I would suggest a feature - additional checkbox

Notify of package flag out of date:

This way voters would also know that there is new version out (upstream)

And they get chance to upgrade their package without waiting for maintainer.

You could do what maintainers do, and just subscribe to RSS feeds of upstream.

Well not all AUR maintainers do that - thats why flag out of date system was built.

Plus not all upstreams have RSS feeds. (or mechanism to be notified)

Also its not possible for me to check upstream website now and then and check if there is new version.

Also for most users AUR is the "only" upstream. Most users dont even go to the actual "upstream" website.

They find package in AUR and git clone and makepkg it.

Thats why we need to use power of AUR.
AUR centralizes everything.

Plus this feature does not require much of coding. Existing code which notifies voters on "new comment" - same code can be used to notify voters on "flag out of date"

Any project worth packaging for general use must have some way of alerting contributors to changes.

You mean "I don't want to", because of course it is possible.

That isn't an argument that anyone here cares about.

How it should be is not how it always is. Otherwise world would never have any trouble.

Anyway I had already filed feature request - and link is posted in first post.
