Updating today with pacman I get:
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: perl-mro-compat: local (0.12-2) is newer than community (0.12-1)
Does anyone know if this is a packaging error or if this is benign and letting the update continue should be OK?

I would think the packager made a mistake changing the "pkgrel=2" line to "1" instead of "3" when rebuilding the package when perl 5.26 was released these last few days.
I would update with "pacman -Syuu" (that's two "-u"). This will make pacman install that new 0.12-1 over the 0.12-2 you have.

OK that sounds sensible - so now updated with the extra "u"
(presumably there will be an updated package at some point with a newer pkgrel)
Edit: The package has now had its pkgrel updated - perl-mro-compat 0.12-3 so all is well.
