This is an odd one, I've got a USB audio interface that worked flawlessly with my Arch Linux laptop, however I recently moved that hard drive into my desktop (the laptop battery died) and have been experiencing this odd issue.
Whenever I leave the audio interface idle for a few minutes and then start playing sound through it, the volume starts really low until what I'm listening to reaches a threshold and then the volume surges in about a second to what I'd expect it to be. For example, music with an acoustic intro will be quiet until say the drums or other louder instruments begin to play, at which point the volume will surge over the space of a second or two until it reaches what is normal.
At first I thought it might be a problem with a particular USB port, but no it happens for all USB3 and USB2 ports on this machine, so I tried a powered USB hub, no difference. I've also checked that the volume controls in PulseAudio remain constant.
Can anyone suggest what I might be missing?
