I am using meld 3.16.4-1, the latest version. Since an update yesterday, the application is taking a long time to start as opposed to start almost instantaenously before.
The warnings emitted when starting it from the command line are shown below. I am not even sure where to start looking. Downgrading the package to the old version does not solve the issue.
(meld:32507): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:68:35: The style property GtkButton:child-displacement-x is deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. It will be removed in a future version
(meld:32507): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:69:35: The style property GtkButton:child-displacement-y is deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. It will be removed in a future version
(meld:32507): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:73:46: The style property GtkScrolledWindow:scrollbars-within-bevel is deprecated and shouldn't be used anymore. It will be removed in a future version
(meld:32507): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_proxy_get_name_owner: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_PROXY (proxy)' failed
Thank you.

What's your window manager, how do you log in, how do you start X? If you don't have your hostname set, set your hostname, if your .xinitrc doesn't look like the one from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc make it look like that one, and only adjust the end of the file to start your session

I use plasma desktop.
Window Manager: KWin 5.10.2-2
Login Manager: sddm
Hostname is set.
I do not have a .xinitrc since I am using a display manager.

You could have a look at
systemd-analyze blame
to find which process is responsible for the delay, then dig deeper in it from there on.

@r4ptor
That has nothing to do with application startup.

Since an update yesterday,
Please post the system's pacman.log from that update onwards.

Can confirm, have the same issue in plasma 5. Just noticed it today, i don't use gnome applications very often.

@pftbest what is the output of
$ systemctl --failed

Found a solution, just need to manually start "/usr/lib/xdg-desktop-portal-kde". Looks like all gtk3 applications now requre "org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop" to be present on dbus.

@pftbest, Thanks a lot, I had the same boring issue on a Debian. I fixed it by launching "/usr/lib/xdg-desktop-portal/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk" at startup.
