Kernel upgrade causes flickering

Some time ago, I noticed a bit of flickering, but it was really light, and hence it did not particularly bothered me. However, it has gotten worse. Backtracking, the problem first appears when updating the (standard) Arch kernel from version 4.9.11-1 to the next one (4.10.1-1). I checked what had changed in that upgrade, but could not find any obvious culprits.

At the moment, I worked around the issue installing the nvidia driver (I was previously using nouveau) -- and indeed the flicker is now gone, even with the latest kernel.

Now I don't any real preference between nvidia and nouveau, but is it possible I just found a bug in the latter? In case it matters, my monitor is connected via DVI-I.
