Many icons are simply not appearing, where they should. Instead there is just a blank space there.
Currently there is an open bug report but it is unconfirmed. Is anyone else having this problem and/or know how to fix it?

Which icons? Can you link to the bug report?
I am using Nitrogen (the wallpaper setter program) and everything works fine.

Well, it seems after I did a clean install of Arch I am no longer having this issue which is odd considering I did a clean install before and was using the same version number.
Although when I try to use icon mode, it puts only one icon on a line and each one has its own line rather than having multiple icons per line.
