XP Pro was an extra $70. Seeing as it will just be deleted anyway, no sense in paying more for a frisbee.

My work laptop is provided for me. It came ghosted with all I need, so I have no need for a real XP install. While I have an install, it's only to test compile some things, really.

What is the price? I know some guy who bought a laptop he claims to be 3x faster than his desktop computer.

Very nice phrak! I've been thinking about getting myself a laptop lately and was looking at the Lenovos. You'll have to post back and let us know if you have problems getting things working.

Hmm when I am looking at those Lenovo laptops there is one thing there is stopping me from bying them. They are using ATI graphic cards. I hate using ATI.

Well, you can always try the open-source ATI driver... I've heard that's gotten pretty good.
(Unless the cards use PCI-x of course...)

I tend to agree, but it's not like I need uber accelerated graphics. I use ratpoison 8)
Still, ATI is better than the Intel chips...

ATI rocks for ratpoison! It's got ascii acceleration

nppangband is in [extra] if you want it
anyway, damned nice computer you're orderin there, even if it does have ATi. Does it have the fingerprint scanner? I looked IBM's fingerprint scanner up the other day, and it has a full pam module, so you can use it to login or for pretty much anything that uses pam.

not just login, but almost anywhere you type a password, su, sudo, etc. Take a look in /etc/pam.d for an idea of what apps on your system use pam. Some need patches, though, like xscreensaver.
